Beautifying the Schoolhouse Grounds
May, 2026
Our VHPS volunteers spent a full day in May to clean up the grounds, firepits, wood piles, etc. We encourage our guests and visitors to visit our historic Schoolhouse throughout the years either by renting the facility or attending one of our many events (See calendar of events). We are thankful to our volunteers to dedicate their time, expertise and skills to keep our Schoolhouse and grounds in top shape!

Historic Restoration of the Schoolhouse Windows
February, 2026
Special donors have contributed funding to restore the Schoolhouse windows. The three transom windows will undergo complete restoration including hardware. Additionally, the four large west-facing windows will be reglazed using a historically correct formulation of glazing putty. Historic Window Restoration of Portland completed the project for $7,000.

The project was completed by the end of February, 2026. We are very fortunate and appreciative to have such a critical improvement made to the Schoolhouse and by very special donors. The windows make the Schoolhouse bright and open to the beautiful outdoors!
Parking Area Improvements

August, 2025
In partnership with our neighbor, the Cornerstone Baptist Church, additional gravel has been added to our parking area along with a pathway for visitors. This project provides overflow parking for both locations during busy times, offers a safe and convenient access away from the roadway, and allows visitors a wide pathway for walking to and from vehicles. We are very appreciative and grateful for the Cornerstone Baptist Church to design, fund, and construct the parking area and pathway between the properties.
Handicap Ramp and New Porch
2022
The schoolhouse received a grant from the Frank L and Arlene J Price Foundation to build a permanent cement front porch and handicap ramp to ADA specifications, which include metal handrails, and wheelchair accessible structure and front door. A local building contractor donated his time and expertise, so that the project cost the allotted $5,000.
Electrical Wiring Replacement and Upgrade
2020-2021
During the Covid shutdown, when the Historic Venersborg Schoolhouse was unable to be used by the community for events, our President, Kathy Holtby, wrote and received a grant from the Clark County Historic Preservation Commission for $15,000 to re-wire the entire facility, replace the electrical box to bring it up to code, and install additional lighting, ceiling fans, and an electric heater with a thermostat. Kevin, a certified electrician, donated his many hours of time to accomplish this major renovation.
Schoolhouse Roof
2018
We want to express our deep gratitude to the Frank L and Arlene J Price Foundation for providing the funds to replace the roof on our beautiful Venersborg Schoolhouse. Homemasters Roofing completed the shingle roof for $12,ooo.
